Posted: May 28, 2013 in Uncategorized

So you’re got old junk cluttering your attic and garage that you just can’t throw away or maybe, you’re a thrift store junkie who needs a way to show off all your latest finds or you could just be a super-talented, DIY crafter looking for your next project. Whatever your motivation, there are hundreds of awesome ideas online for how to turn your old junk into beautiful garden décor.

As an Austin junk removal company, you know we love junk and we especially love seeing the ways people save their junk for the landfills.

Below we’re ranked our five favorite ways we’ve seen people reuse their old junk for garden decor…

The Winner – Piano as a Water Fountain!

Piano

Bill Metzgar turned his old piano into this incredible water fountain!

He told the Twisted Sifter blog, “This piano is an 1885 Steinway. It had really bad termite damage to the inner structure, so yes, it was beyond repair, so I turned it into a fountain for my mom for Mother’s Day. It has a 2,000 gallon per hour pump in the pond and a flex hose from the pump up into the piano where I used a construction of pvc to distribute the water  across the keys which I sealed with fiberglass resin.“ (You can read the blog entry here.)

So for sheer ingenious creativity in creating a one-of-a-kind, shower-stopper garden fountain and being a great son, we have to declare Bill as having created the best garden décor from junk that we’ve seen!

Runner Up – Children’s boots as flower pots!

We’re wrote about what to do with your sentimental junk like your children’s old toys and clothes that you don’t want to throw away, but you simply don’t have room to keep before and that’s why we love this idea. Using your children’s old rain boots as flower pots provides a unique, visually-appealing way to display your memories right in your garden.

And if you don’t want to use your child’s old rain boots, you can find old rain boots for cheap at thrift stores.

umbrella#3 – Umbrella as a wreath!

Funky Junk Interiors shows her readers how to make a wreath out of an old umbrella on her blog. The wreath isn’t that difficult to make and it will definitely make your house stand out!

To make the wreath, all you’ll need is an old umbrella (try using a patterned one to stand out even more!), a few fake flowers and some ribbon. Since this wreath is easy and cheap to make and you can pretty much guarantee you’ll be the only one who has one in your neighborhood, we feel this craft is deserving of our third spot on our top 5 list!

#4 – Mailboxes as flowerpots! mailbox

Shannon from A Southern Belle with Northern Roots painted some old mailboxes and used them as flowerpots in her garden. These look absolutely great and the idea is very unique, but unfortunately, it could be difficult to find several old mailboxes. But if you happen to have an old mailbox, this is a great way to reuse it!

Shannon also has tons of other awesome ideas on her blog worth checking out.

cans#5 –Cans as a flowerpot!

Blogger Zsa Zsa Bellagio (see her blog here) uses cans as flowerpots. As an Austin junk removal company, we love green living and this is an awesome way to reuse cans. Simple, cheap and made from materials everyone has in their home – of course, this should idea should be on our top 5 list!

These are our five favorite ideas for using junk as garden décor.
