A&E’s Hoarders has fascinated audiences since 2009. While viewers are often repulsed, sadden and even outraged by the conditions the hoarders live in, the show has drawn massive ratings for A&E.

On a show that’s all about shock value, it’s hard to pick just five top insane moments. But we did just that and we’re going to warn you now, this blog entry is not for those with weak stomachs.

These are our top five most over the top, cringe worthy Hoarders moments.

#5 – Jill Hoards Rotten Food

On the very first episode of Hoarders, Jill introduced us to the world of hoarding. Her Achilles’ heel? Rotten food! That’s right. Jill’s home was full of rotting food.

The above clip shows a pumpkin that has almost completely decomposed right in the middle of her living room, leaving the entire room infested with maggots and a vile stench. But Jill’s home is so messy, she doesn’t even realize that the pumpkin has decomposed there, thinking instead that the smell may be coming from the rotten apples in her kitchen.

Remember, as bad as this may seem, she’s only #5 on our list! It gets way worse.

#4 – Sherry Has Roaches…Lots and Lots of Roaches

Hoarders’ homes are often infested with spiders, roaches and other creepy crawlies for obvious reasons, but Sherry’s home really takes the cake.

In the above clip, you can see roaches crawling all over Sherry’s kitchen pots and pans – the exact same pots and pans she’s using to cook! Then, it gets even worse. One of the men brought in to help cleanup picks up a drinking glass that has 3 inches of bugs in it! Literally 3 inches!

Later in the episode, the cleaning crew finds a nest of black widow spiders in Sherry’s home, leading them to have to confront her about the safety hazards associated with the conditions of her home. The confrontation goes about as well as you would expect.

#3 – Glen Has Too Many Rats

In what may be the understatement of the century, hoarder Glen admits he has too many rats.

As you can see in the above clip, Glen has hundreds of rats running around his entire home. Crawling in his bed while he sleeps. Climbing through the kitchen while he cooks. Chewing down the walls.

And using his entire home as their bathroom…ick!

But if you think rat poop is bad, wait until you see what made our number two spot…

#2 – Shannon Hoards Poop

Some hoarders hoard trash. Some, like Jill we mentioned above, hoard food. Others apparently hoard poop.

That’s right, hoarder Shannon keeps her own waste. As she explains in the above clip, Shannon has gotten into the habit of collecting her own poop in old jugs and storing it around the house. All those dozens upon dozens of jugs you see outside her home in the clip? Yep, all full of poop!

Why? Well, Shannon’s toilet broke and she was either unable or unwilling to get it fixed. So she now goes to the bathroom in a bucket. When the bucket gets full, she pours it into a jug and sets it down where ever she can find room!

So what can top hoarding poop for the number one spot?

#1 – Terry Hoards Dead Cats

Terry takes crazy cat lady to a whole new level. She actually has so many cats peeing in her home the ammonia fumes made one of her kitten’s eyeballs pop out!

Unsurprisingly, almost all of Terry’s cats are infested with diseases. So what does Terry do with her cats when they die? She hoards their bodies in her freezer!

As you can see in the above clip, her freezer is literally full of decomposing cat bodies! When this episode aired, many were outraged at the conditions Terry kept her living cats in but by the end of the episode, all cats were removed. Terry is also barred from ever owning a pet again.

But the hoarding of dead cat bodies definitely earns her the number one spot on our list of the most insane Hoarder’s moments!
