Have a whole closet full of clothes, but can’t find anything to wear? We’d be willing to bet you have a cluttered closet!

Not only do cluttered closets make getting dressed a real pain, but they’re visually unappealing. Fortunately, you can declutter your closet in a couple of hours and without all those expensive “home organization systems.” In fact, all you need is some trash!

Ready to get started?

Start donating.

As an Austin junk removal company, we’ve seen a lot of cluttered closets and every single one has been overflowing with clothes the owner no longer wears. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Does it fit? Not “will it fit when I lose weight?” If it doesn’t fit now, it needs to go!
  2. Have I worn it in the past year? Once you go a year without wearing something, it probably won’t be worn again and it needs to go!
  3. Is it ripped/missing a button/has a broken zipper? If you’re not willing to take the item to a seamstress this week to get it fixed, than it needs to go!
  4. Is it stained? You’ll probably never wear a stained piece of clothing, so it needs to go!

Make two piles for these items. One for clothes and shoes that don’t fit or haven’t been worn in over a year. These can be donated. Ripped and stained items, however, will need to be thrown away.

Start organizing.

Think we were crazy when we told you earlier you could organize your closet with only trash?

Here’s how:

Tip #1 – Use old soda tabs to create double hangers. Twice the room, half the price!

Tip #2 – Use old beer bottles or glass soda bottles to hold bracelets.

Tip #3 – Use an old picture frame to hang necklaces from.

Tip #4 – Use old wood and thrift store door knobs to make a purse hanger.

Tip #5 – Use an old cheese grater to hold earrings.

And there you have it, simple and cheap closet organization that use all your old trash!
